How was your pregnancy?
My first son was born in a hospital with standard OB care. This time we went with a midwife (CPM) and planned a home birth, and are so happy with that choice. No unnecessary ultrasounds or vaginal exams. I had no idea this would be a big baby, I never even thought about it. My first son was 8lbs. 7oz.
What did you learn from this birth?
I’ve had a lot of people say “You’re amazing!” or “I could never do that!” when I tell them I had my 10 1/2 lb. baby at home. But really, I’m not amazing. I didn’t do anything, other than just let it happen. Yes it hurt. Yes it was hard. But I can’t even imagine how much harder it would have been if I was on my back, unable to move. In the hospital with my first son, I required many stitches and had a painful recovery. This time, although he was 2 lbs. bigger, I needed no stitches and feel GREAT.
