Rose's Story-- 6 lbs., 6 oz.-- Hospital VBAC

Hi, I wanted to share my story with you! My first baby was a boy weighing 8lbs. 3 ounces. He was born by elective cesarean because I was being told by my doctor and the nurses he was too big. I had little support in my decision to birth vaginally and little knowledge on the whole labor and birth thing. I had severe pain and depression afterwards. I also ended up having to have gallbladder surgery 2 weeks after my c section. I was also told I couldn’t breast feed my baby because I was taking narcotics. I do know now I could have. I was in so much pain though I dont know if I could have anyways. He is 2 1/2 now and I just gave birth to a baby girl via SUCCESSFUL VBAC!!!! YAY!
I decided this time around to do tons and tons of research and found excellent doctors even though they were 1 1/2 hours away. It didnt matter to me, it was all worth it! I ended up getting gestational diabetes and toward the end had to go to Toledo 2 times a week. It got really tiring but again was all worth it!
Autumn Ruth Flower was 6 pounds 6 ounces and 19 1/4 inches long. Head circumference of 13 1/4 inches. My labor started naturally on its own at 39 weeks! Yay! They kept telling me that I would have to deliver by 39 weeks because of the diabetes and risks to the baby and I told them I wanted to wait till my labor started on its own and low and behold! It did! 8 hours later she was here! I only had 2 stitches! yay! She was born at St. Vincents Mercy Hospital in Toledo, OH ! I went through all the pain the whole time and made it through it. I said then that was the last time but I know I could do it again!
I felft WONDERFUL after I had her! I couldnt believe the recovery difference of a VBAC compared to a c section! SO WORTH IT! I learned that even if the doctors say you cant, you really can do it!
Rose added: I forgot to mention I had an awesome doula! I do recommend one for anyone wanting a natural labor!

Rose! You ALSO forgot to mention that you went to the hospital closest to you, when you didn't think you would make the 1 1/2 hour trip to Toledo (during active labor). They refused to support a VBAC and said if you stayed they would perform a c-section.... so you told them you were leaving!! They were kind enough to provide an ambulance ride to Toledo, so you labored for 2 hours in the back of the ambulance until you arrived at your hospital of choice, and it was there that you gave birth :)
You are a warrior!!
I am surprised that V's allowed a VBAC. I live about 45 minutes from Toledo. Looking at having a child in a couple years but really worried about where to go. Glad to hear you had a good experience at V's as I was leaning towards Bay Park or Toledo.
