How was your pregnancy?

Fantabulous.  I loved my midwife experience.  The only problem was a severe PUPPs rash that I developed the last six weeks.  I felt great, gained the same amount of weight (30 lbs.) as I did with my previous pregnancy.  However, I was puffy with the previous one, and that baby was only 7lbs. 14oz.

How did you feel about your upcoming birth?

Confident, excited, well-supported.

Description of your birth experience:

Walked, rocked on the ball, wouldn't go near the birth tub- just didn't think it would help me.  When it came time to push, I was frustrated it was taking so long.  Pushed in several positions.  Ended up on the birthing stool, where my husband caught the baby (or, picked her up off the floor, as he likes to tell it!).  She latched on immediately and nursed for a solid hour.  She had nursing blisters on her hands from sucking in utero.

How did you feel after the birth (first month)?

Good.  This baby nursed well and slept well.  I had a small tear that the repair was not as bad as the episiotomy repair from my previous birth.

How did you feel six months after the birth? One year? Now? I feel great.  I want more babies.  I want a 10-pounder!

What did you learn from this birth? I learned how fantastic home births are.

Any words of wisdom to impart? Choose a provider (OB, midwife) that you love and trust.  Then, give birth where you feel comfortable to labor.  Our bodies do not make babies bigger than we can get out!
