Hi, there! We're buried in snow out east. I attended my first birth (in which I wasn't directly involved) on Christmas Eve. Amazing. Hope you had a joyful holiday!
Two weeks away from EDD and hormones are raging uncontrollably. I don't think even I could live with me if I had to. Prodromal labor has been going on for at least two weeks. Can someone tell me how in the world I can have such intense contractions and still not go into actual labor until 42 weeks (like I did with the last two)? I don't expect anything different this time. I feel like I'm going out of my mind. Christmas, relatives visiting, a house destroyed and I can't bend over to pick anything up. Apparently I'm the only one around here who knows how to clean. Whoever invented Christmas vacation from school must be giggling at me right now. Overwhelmed can't even begin to describe how I feel right now.
So...this time last year I was impatiently awaiting my daughter's birth. I was hugely pregnant, exhausted from the holidays and chasing my toddler around, and SO ready to meet my new little girl! She wasn't born until January 13th...
Needless to say, this holiday season was a lot more enjoyable and relaxing for me.
I'd say crickets are basically brown grasshoppers... at least based on the Eric Carle book, "Quiet Little Cricket." :-) Seriously, it's "six of one, half-dozen of the other," so it's close enough, imo. ;-)
Crickets are brown and more likely to jump at your face in a most alarming fashion. Not that I've ever screamed and ran in a panic away from said insects.
I'm just flipping because I just got a new computer, then used the external hard drive to back up my husband's computer. Now the new computer is giving me "kernel panics" (which I know nothing about except the internet says IMMINENT DOOM) and so now the husband is racing out to get a new extern so hopefully I can back up, then take the new computer to the Apple store and get it replaced/fixed something so I can not lose al my data. Oh Jill: the data I would lose! *cries*
I was celebrating the 4th birthday of my middle son, which means 4 years since my cesarean section. Instead of romantically remembering labor or the first moments of holding him, I was thinking things like, "Four years ago, I was having my last meal before I had to fast at midnight," or "Four years ago, they were sewing me up." Oh, well. He's such a cute little sweetheart. I wish his birth wasn't so disappointing. It's not his fault. I'll give him extra hugs for it.
Tina, my heart goes out to you. I was only three months along when I ripped my husband a new one for my insufficiently thoughtful birthday gift. I spent the next six months bitching about how much I wanted a beer and yelling at the Baby Story episodes. I am not a nice lady when pregnant.
The upside is that you will be able to get away with a lot more once the baby gets here, because the bar is set lower. So there's that to look forward to.
I just asked my three and a half year old son where babies should be born. He answered me, "in houses." :-)
When asked in multiple choice format who takes care of mommies when they're pregnant, doctors or midwives, he answered, "midwives".
He was a c/s for FTP after an stupid induction. His brother was a cbac when my bp wouldn't stay down. I hope their babies are born in their houses. I will certainly teach them that they should be.
Cricketgate indeed! You know things are slow when people obsess over whether it's a cricket or a grasshopper in the picture! (Though I have to admit, that was my first thought also!)
I'm sure things will pick up after the New Year and once things are back to normal from the snow....

Oh, I need to start our bookclub book already.

Um, your cricket looks like a grasshopper ; )

or a grasshopper...
Damn! It's not even a cricket?
I didn't think it was possible, but I've totally eaten my fill of sweets. I can't even look at a cookie right now. So weird.
Nope, not a cricket. These are crickets:

Hang in there, Tina!
Cracking up over the grasshopper cricket brouhaha. Can we get an entomologist around here?
Cricketgate 2010 is the most exciting thing going on this week. How do you know I didn't deliberately mislabel a grasshopper to stimulate discussion?
Yep, it's definitely hibernation time around here. My blog was quite consistent - to the low side - but hardly any comments

Down here in ol' Flaaarida we have cicadas if they haven't all frozen from the unusually cold weather.
Hope everyone's staying warm!

I just thought, "Awwww, cute cricket!" *shrugs*
