Jill and Andie - I did not see Parkview North Hospital on the list. I had unnecesareans there in 2007 and 2009. Thank you for the list though, I think I'll be making the trip with Rachel to Mishawaka if I ever need to hospital birth again!
I noticed that one hospital (St. Joseph in Mishawaka) has a rate in the single digits. I wonder why that is. That's a huge discrepancy. What are they doing differently??
Kindred is a rehab/long term acute care hospital. They've not done a c-section ever. And, Clarian Arnett hasn't been open long enough to have a statistically valid rate.
Mary, that should have said St. Vincent Carmel Hospital instead of Kindred. Their Hospital ID #'s are one number different and I put the wrong one. Thanks for pointing that out. Jill, can you change that?
Mishawaka has a lot of Amish in the area, who would be less likely to accept interventions. I wonder if that's one reason their rate is so low?
Lauren, Parkview North didn't have any hospital discharge data listed for 2008. I'm assuming that means they didn't submit it to the state. I went back and looked at the 2007 files and they didn't have any data listed for that year either.
Andie, I made the change.
The rates here were calculated by dividing total cesareans by total births based on hospital discharge data. That's really all these numbers tell you. The data hasn't been teased or scrubbed.
Kindred Hospital is a hospital and does do deliveries Amanda. It is true that they have long-term rehab centers, but they also have hospitals here in Indianapolis.
Ata, I wasn't the one that posted about Kindred, that was Mary, but if they have hospitals in Indianapolis, that's news to me and a lot of other people from the Indianapolis area who are wondering the same thing.
I only see one [Lutheran Hospital of Indiana] of the five hospitals, that offer maternity services, in Allen County listed here. Where is the data for the other four?
Correction, 2 hospitals.
Anna, which ones are they? Did they recently add maternity services?
Anna- The 5 I'm aware of are Lutheran, St. Joseph at Ft. Wayne, Parkview, Parkview North, and Dupont. All the rates for those are listed except Parkview North, which I'm guessing didn't report any info to the state. I went back to the state's files and didn't find any info for that hospital for 2008 or 2007. That was mentioned in one of the earlier comments. That was all the hospitals listed for Allen County in this brochure put out by the Indiana Perniatal Network- http://www.indianaperinatal.org/downloads/locfinal061610.pdf
Are those the hospitals you're thinking of?
