CBS News: Location to blame for unnecessary surgery?
By Jill Arnold
Key quotes:
“As strange as it can seem, where people live can have more influence on the health care they receive than their medical condition or their own personal preferences.”
“We think the differences as they stand now probably relate a lot to doctors’ preferences for one procedure over another, even when both are pretty reasonable options.”
Both quotes are from Michael Barry, President of the Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making.

Thank the work of John Wennberg. Many pages of Obamacare are directed towards ameliorating the problem of regional variation.
Just cited it in my app for grad school. Tis direction i hope to go after school, bringing an experienced woman's view so that left brain algorithms-aka cookbook medicine--do not produce its own diminishing returns.
