Home Birth Percentages by State, 2009

By Jill Arnold

The following is an apples to oranges comparison. The data are from different years and comparing home birth percentages to cesarean percentages without any explanation as to why they are juxtaposed here is about as relevant as comparing one or the other to state percentages of beef jerky consumption per capita.

Inasmuch as both are ways that babies are born, it is interesting to be able to visualize patterns of where the highest percentages of each are geographically clustered.

Please refer to the reports Home Births in the United States, 1990–2009 and Births: Final Data for 2010 directly.
